our next stop was Mystery Bay, just out of Narooma, before heading on to Eden on the far south coast border of NSW  & onto Lakes Entrance in Vic.

The sound of the two Spitfire supercharged Rolls-Royce Merlin engines at full noise was , enough to make any good old air force pilot want to stand to attention.

After more hunting, one shop referred us to ‘INCAR Audio at McGraths Hill’ where we spoke with  Jason, the director,  who immediately came out to the truck, looked at what we needed .

The simplicity and sturdiness of the buildings, particularly the Ebenezer church, can be seen as the embodiment of the way of life, taste and customs of the early Scottish Presbyterian settlers.

If you are looking for an old world experience, take a drive out to Ebenezer Church and pop in to their café for a Devonshire tea/coffee.

Welcome to our July edition and the chilly winter weather.

I am enjoying the sunny days and cooler winter nights snuggling up in bed under the doona, warm as toast then waking up to the brisk morning air! Another activity I especially love is catching up with my friends (we call this ‘Our Therapy’), spending quality time laughing and sharing our lives with each other. I recently spent a weekend away with two very dear friends and their husbands – what a fantastic time we all had together – eating, laughing, gaming, walking, laughing, eating!!!

During the Covid-19 lockdown, it hit me just how important my friendships were and I desperately missed being able to be with my friends. One friend solved the issue by signing up to Zoom and sending out weekly Zoom meeting dates / times and so began our marathon Zoom sessions of chatting and laughing. Even though we hadn’t been out of our homes, we still found things to discuss and laugh about.

Although it was definitely not as good as seeing each other physically, it made us feel connected and maintained our spiritual and emotional needs until we could visit each other or catch up in a café for coffee. These internet meetings became the thing I most looked forward to each week, to just be able to converse and share with my friends, to see their faces and smile back at them. It was much more satisfying than a text or phone call but definitely not as satisfying as being together physically in one location.

I have always valued my friends and the truly amazing friendships I have which we together have nurtured over the years. These friends are my chosen family, the people I choose to spend my time with, love unconditionally and will be there for whenever and for whatever they need my support, the people I truly love with all my heart. They have seen me at my worst, they have cried with me during sadness and sickness, visited me in hospital many times, shared my joys, entertained my children as I have entertained theirs, laughed at me, laughed with me and also made fun of me at times, but these are the people who would defend me with their lives!

I realise now that family is very important but your chosen family – ‘friends’ – they don’t have to love you or even like you, they have no obligation to do that! They love you because you have a strong connection with each of them; each person connects with you on a different level through different things. Love comes through familiarity, the sharing of yourself and your beliefs, strengths and vulnerabilities, through trust.

If you have friends that you haven’t seen or spoken to for a while -  make the effort each week,  fortnight, even monthly to connect with them either individually or as a group and nurture your chosen family! I can’t tell you how important it is to have these amazing people in your lives; they often save your life literally.

I am so blessed to have amazing friends – loyal, loving, caring, understanding, supportive and non-judgemental – and we have chosen each other to be family!

Genuine friends are the most important choice you will ever make and they will be there with you through the good and the bad to make your journey the very best and the smoothest, filled with lots of love and laughter in amongst the sad times.

 Cherish your friends dearly!
